♥ Who is Honey Photography?

I know having photographs of your family is not a necessity.  But I also feel like photos are extremely important in our lives.  Whether it’s on your phone or taken professionally, you will cherish those little moments that you froze in time. Years later those pictures will bring you right back to the day you took them and you might even giggle at the thought of those happy memories.  I want to help you have that!

I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t interested in photography.  Having a photographer father {who owned his own studio/professional printing service}  it was sort of hard to get away from.  My first job was working the ol’ film processor and making prints from the hundreds of rolls of film people brought into the store.  We were the only professional printing service around, and surprisingly lasted quite a time after things started going digital.  We were also the only place around that would print whatever the customer brought in {ahem…. biker rallies}…  so you can understand why Picture Perfect was greatly missed when my dad closed it in 2009.

Working there started my love for editing images.  Although it was my dad and another photographer doing the actual photography, I had a large part in the editing process; which was ultimately what made me fall in love with photography.

I didn’t actually get my first DSLR camera until the end of 2009, and I had absolutely no clue how to use my new {previously owned and used a  lot} FujuFilm camera.   {My dad using one around me constantly does not mean I caught on to the things he was doing to make that thing work}.  But who cares?  I used it anyways!  And I thought I was pretty good at it {you cant be that awful when you have it in Auto mode all the time, right?}.  I had no idea how to manually set a DSLR camera, and didn’t really care to learn at that point.  It was just for fun, and my images were turning out pretty good, if I did say so myself {Right!}!

I honestly don’t know how or why it happened, but I started taking pictures of friends of our family and their children {shout out to the Laney’s}.  And they very graciously accepted my $25 fee and mediocre {very much post-processed} images.

All of the sudden I realized that it would be very helpful to learn how to actually use that camera of mine and get the photos I wanted {without} having to do a whole bunch of work on the computer after taking them.  That being said, my dad and the internet are where most of my knowledge of photography today comes from.  It took a lot of time and questions to learn how to shoot {Manual} and lots of practice to get where I was comfortable moving on as a “professional”… {my dad informed me after doing several friend’s photos and charging a small fee that I was, in fact, already a professional}… It sure didn’t seem like it!  And I wanted to be very comfortable with the images I was producing and selling before I really called myself a legit professional.

I did lots and lots of free sessions {charging only for images and prints} to get myself a good marketable portfolio before taking the big leap and creating my own photography business.  I quit my {decently paying} job as a waitress at Freddie Paul’s steakhouse and pursued photography on {nights and weekends} and went to school during the day.  Although it didn’t help that most of my clientele were two hours away and I could only do sessions on the weekends, I had myself a pretty decent thing going.

Fast forward to present day >>>>

I am now an OSU graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and a minor in Marketing working as a graphic designer in Tulsa {for Community Care College, Clary Sage College, Oklahoma Technical College, & Clary Sage Salon & Spa}. It’s tough right now to juggle my design job, photography, free-lance design and have time to watch all my favorite shows, work out, and spend time with my family and friends… but I’d rather be busy than bored!  At the moment my major focus is on high school seniors.  I would like to get senior reps from high schools all over the Tulsa area – if you’re a senior shoot me an email!  If you are anyone else in the Tulsa area, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me!  I love making new friends =).

Would you entertain the idea of coming to Poteau to do some pics of Jim, Caroline and me?

Kevin Howarth - Hi Brooke,

This is Kevin Howarth. My wife Sarah and I have used you several times for maternity & family pictures. I have enjoyed working with you and think that you do a great job. I have a proposition for you. I am a Dentist, and my partner and I are wanting to get some really good photography of us, our office, staff, and shots of us with patients for our website. Probably some black & white and some color images to be on our website that would help us give off a very professional feel that we are after. I thought of you and wanted to see if this is something you could help us with.

You can reach me at 918-691-1601 or at the above email.

Thanks Brooke!
