Such a beautiful family. I’m so glad I had the chance to meet them all!  Here’s their story…

When Nathan and I started talking about starting our family we discussed adoption as an option, and after praying about it decided we would adopt before trying to have any bio kids. We fell in love with Ethiopia-the culture, people, history, good, everything. We waited 11 months for Isaacs referral after submitting outlet dossier–it was just under two years from starting the process till we brought him home. It was such a rich experience and our eyes were opened to the real plight of orphans in Ethiopia specifically, we saw that adoptions were slowing in that country but knew we wanted to adopt again so quickly started the paperwork process again, soon after bringing Isaac home. We opened up our home study to include children with special needs and a little over two years later received an email with a 6 month old girls picture in it. She is perfect, only “special need” is she is missing part of her left arm, from the elbow down. We waited 6 mon before we could bring her home forever. Isaac loves her dearly. She has adjusted so beautifully, and is thriving. Nathan and I also took guardianship of a 16 year old from our town in 2011, 6 months after bringing Isaax home. She was part of our family through the rest of high school and into her freshman year in college, we still have a good relationship with her though she is fully independent. Nathan and I were trying not to get pregnant, figuring we would just forgo any bio kids in favor of adoption, as it a huge passion for us now, but found out we were pregnant in late dec, just 2 months after bringing home Aniyah. So working on bonding and attachment with the added mix of pregnancy hasn’t been the easiest but now 10 months after we brought her home, I can look back and see how very far we have all come! -Anna Irwin
